Better Blogger Beta!

I have now upgraded to Blogger beta, with the simply irresistible archive on the side bar! I also got rid of the pop-up comments due to incompatibility with Mozilla Firefox (which I prefer to use now).

With a few hacks I also managed, at long last, to provide a decent banner at the top. What does everyone think?

  1. Could do with more artwork, I say but none the less very good!

  3. That is a lovely banner, Matt. How did you do it? (I'd love to know as I often think about how to improve Cally's Kitchen in this way)

  4. Cool banner.

I tried out Beta but there is much less control as I could not directly edit the HTML.

So, I reverted the template back to its original which lets me hav better control.

Got myself a banner a few days back too. =)

  5. You can still alter the HTML in blogger beta, but the code has very much changed. I just take advice from hacks already found out by more nerdy people than myself. Just do a search on Google's Blogger Help Group, and you can usually find step-by-step guides on how to alter the HTML. I managed to do the banner in Beta by altering the HTML to allow the option of adding components to the banner element, and the option of deleting the elements themselves. Then I simply added the picture as a script element - and included the line 'width="100%"' which keeps the width the size of the window. This last step was the only bit not described in the guide I used.

I'm trying it out on a mac at the moment and glad it works. The problem with altering HTML code is different browsers aren't always compatible. I find Blogger Beta gives more freedom in a safe environment. I may transfer my links from blogrolling.com because they seem to load up slow, since beta now has an excellent links facility.

  6. matt, your blog rocks mate! pic is great - not too religious to turn off the viewer but visually pleasing to make the viewer curious! I wana get me a banner and a few things but I had a go and found it way too complicated.
