Motu Proprio Network

EDIT - LINK DEAD. SORRY!

After the landmark letter of the Pope, Summorum Pontificum, we are left as the Church with many things to prepare and put into place, in order that the full fruits of the Holy Father's wishes be realised. Central to this initiative is the organisation of local people who wish for the Extraordinary Mass to be celebrated freely and widely. An excellent first step in this, is the database begun by LumenGentleman Catholic Studies. At the time of writing, this geographical database has over 1000 members from all over the world, and I really think it needs more promoting. Here is a recent correspondance from the owner:
The response to this simple little project has been overwhelming. Deo Gratias!

I finally figured out a good way for registrants in the database to contact each other without making everyone's personal information available on the Internet for anyone to see.
There is now a search tool that lets you look for members in your area. When the results of the search come back, you will be able to click on a member's contact ID to send them a note from the web site. They can then respond to you if they so choose, at which point, you will have each other's email addresses and can pretty well take it from there.

Some of you have asked about signing up people "by proxy", people who may not be regular internet users. I have no problem with this, provided you have their permission. With this in mind, I have a proposal to make: I would like to invite every member of this network to talk to just five people in your parish, and ask them if they would mind you signing them up on the database. The math isn't hard to do, of course: if we all did this, the network would quickly grow to nearly 5,000 members, instead of just 1,000.

We need numbers to make this work. I see a lot of bishops are coming out with public statements and saying, "nothing is going to change in my diocese, no one here is really interested in the old Mss." I think that's misinformed opinion, and it would be nice to have the hard data to prove it.
It will be through 'grass roots' acts of the faithful that we will see true renewal in the Church, and the return of immemorial tradition to all aspects of Her life. Please do click on the link and sign up to this network, and ask others whether you could sign them up under your email address too.

  1. Looks like a dodgy site to me Matt! i know they issue a disclaimer but their tool-bar recommends some weird sites such as WORLD's LAST CHANCE..a bunch of weirdos in my opinion.

It would be nice to have a return of some pre-Vatican 11 aspects that were never meant to be thrown out, but heaven forbid we should return to something..the Church is ever new & as Fr guy clearly points out much in the new Mass is good. What we need to remember is we have one Mass now 2 rites so there's no going back..

  3. I think you've missed the point here Jackie. If you'd read the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum clearly, it indicates that it requires a request from the faithful for an extraordinary mass to be offered in a locality. This network enables people who are attached to the extraordinary mass to coordinate efforts to make this form of mass available for the faithful.

Maybe I should scan your toolbar and see if you recommend any 'wierdos'?

  4. I just looked at the "Worlds last chance" and indeed, it is a bunch of heretics. However, I could not find anywhere on LumenGentleman that linked to this site. It is more likely that you saw the link in google sponsored adverts, which are changeable and not endorsed by the authors.

  5. Yes it was the google ones...but i still wouldn't put them or allow them on my blog!

Yes i take your point about requesting the Mass, but can't you just ask now without doing backward somersaults?

  6. The google ads is something that does not reflect the authors views but used as a way for a website to support itself. There are probably evangelical websites that carrying google links to custom made rosaries and pilgrimages to Lourdes on their site.

I would also politely note that Fr. Guy did not say point blank the new rite is great and beyond criticism in his article on the motu proprio. I suspect most learned priests like himself agree that the reform went to far and/or was not carried out according to the decrees of Sancrosantum Concilium. Hence why the Oratories keep their "High Masses" within the style of the Traditional Latin Mass. It's very rare to hear nowadays that something is reverent because it looks like the new rite - its always the modeling of the old usage that brings out any beauty in something that is very much a break with liturgical tradition.
