House Exorcism

A little while ago we had our house 'blessed' or 'exorcised'. This is not because of anything terrifying happening in the night! As Catholics, we believe that the home is the 'domestic church' and by the act of blessing seek to sanctify or 'make holy' something otherwise ordinary. It includes a prayer of deliverance from evil influences, and sprinkling of holy water. I hope to write more about this process of 'Faith in the Home' as I learn more myself...

  3. Many years ago we also had the same ceremony. It's always been remembered because our rather large PP sat on one of the guest's handbags and oof course flattenend it. He also said he's miss out he bathroom, enough water already. Enjoy the new house and good luck with your career.

  4. Thankyou for posting on this, Matt. It is very imprtant to fortify our homes. We have asked our parish priest to come and bless our home three times. We are hoping it will happen one day. He is very busy. We have only lived here ten years, so it`s early days yet. I would encourage every Catholic family to at least ask your priest to come and bless your home and, to keep asking if he seems disinterested or suggests it is medieval superstition to want this... it is very important.

Happy Days in your new home !

  5. Oh Bernadette, I thought we were slow in waiting a year and a half! (Our pp never came, but we eventually got a Priest from a neighbouring parish to come for dinner, and then sprang it on him. Unfortunately it was a bit off the cuff, so I'm not sure we got a "proper" exorcism. Still hoping we'll get it done in Latin one day!

  6. Lizzie! no. keep hoping. I am naturally a very impatient person, so see this as a glorious opportunity to learn some patience. Use the time it takes to pray for your priest. Ten years is NOTHING To God. If it takes twenty, we will use it as an opportunity. They are very very busy and we have to respect that.

  7. Heh. You need a Catholic university. I've got a priest lecturer to agree to come and do it.
