My husband Andrew was born on the Feast of Christ the King..28th October....
ReplyDeleteChrist the King was established by Pope Pius XI in 1932 (or thereabouts) as a counter-blast to totalitarianisms claiming complete sovereignty over every aspect of citizens' lives. He set the date for its observance as the last Sunday in October, but I don't known quite why that time was chosen. When the Calendar was thoroughly revamped in 1970 following the 2nd Vat council, it was decided to relocate Christ the King onto the last Sunday of the Church's year to symbolise the return of the King on the Last Day of time. So the feast came to have (and still has) a more "eschatological" character than the social one it originally
